John Henry 'DOC' Holliday Ref: 4905
While Wyatt Earp is arguably one of the most notable western figures of American history, nothing can be said of him without nearly equal mention of 'DOC' Holliday. While both lived very controversial lives, it is 'DOC' Holliday that stands out as the one more painted in shades of gray. His flamboyant personality and his reputation make him one of the more compelling figures to walk the streets of our american west. A dentist by trade, and gambling gunfighter by default, 'many things can be said of him, but uninteresting is not one of them. A central figure at the legendary gunfight of the OK corral, he is often referenced as the prime instigator of the shoot-out. whether this is true, only the dead can tell. Despite being a man often looked at with envy, 'DOC' suffered the harsh ravages of consumption. In fact for a man who so often put himself in harms way, it is ironic that his illness, and not a bullet, is what finally claimed his larger than life existence.
